Being disappointed by numbers

Benjamin

I Love YTtalk
So everyone starts at some point and everyone wants their channel to grow as fast as possible. The disappointment by not having enough views or subs comes fast. This is why Yttalk is here. But should you really quit when it doesn't get better? Even when you think you're giving your best?

I think no.

My opinion is, you should love your channel and making your videos and you should love the subs/views you have.

I know it can be disappointing, but to quit because you're not "successful" or something? No. I think that shows you're doing your channel perhaps for the wrong reasons (this is just my opinion, not stating it as fact).

If my channel stopped where it was, I wouldn't complain (honestly). I love that I get a few comments and whatnot per video, it's fantastic!

Agreed with both statements above me. Youtube is not about fame and money. This is where most youtubers slip out, they forget what they love to do and the views/subs/money will take them over and you'll do youtube for other reasons then you love it. Keep fighting and you'll succeed.

I agree with the fact that its not about money and being famous but if you believe yourself that you're doing everything you can to have a good channel and you still don't get the subs/views you want it might get you down. Although, I would be happy with even 10 subs! If they all like my content I keep making it for them.

It can slight your motivation, but you can't get everything you want. I also got times I got bad days, but there is always room to improve or gain a bigger audience ^^

There are a few things that help to drive the success (if subs/views/revenue are your measurements) of a YouTube channel. These are general things I've come to learn over time and by no means represent a complete "how to" list.

First, you need to have a host(s) that the viewers can connect with.

Second, you need to pick a subject that is of general interest. Gaming will be more popular in general than underwater basket weaving.

Another factor is the quality of the video. Shoot in HD, use good lighting, use good audio and you will find this will help. Poorly lit videos with horrible audio cause people to go elsewhere.

Then you have to network. Get creative on how you can get your videos out there. Work with other channels that have a common interest. Join a network that has a community of channels that will cross promote. Use discussion forums to share your videos. Facebook and Twitter can be great ways to build your audience. I've found Facebook to be especially useful. Drive people to your Facebook page through your videos and then be sure people know how to find your YouTube channel on your Facebook page.

Keep fresh content on your channel, Facebook page, Twitter, etc.

Take time to interact with your viewers. Promote new videos. Stick with it. It took me a year to find my groove and I'm still learning as I go along. It's a labor of love... if you don't love what you're doing chances are people will pick up on that.

No I think you shouldn't quit if you aren't getting as much traffic as you would have liked because I think that if you quit it shows you aren't dedicated to your channel. If you make a channel you should stick with it.

This seems to be a common issue when channels are first starting out. There's always a "how is my channel doing" post because people feel that their channel is not growing fast enough and they get discouraged when they see big numbers elsewhere. The truth of it is, there's no benchmark for comparison between channels-even in the same field. Obviously if you've been putting out a video a day for 2 years and have 3 subscribers and 10 views, you probably need to change up your approach. But unless you're uploading the same video at the same time on a channel the same size as someone else, there's no way to compare how you're doing with someone else and the only thing that will do is get you discouraged (because you think you're doing worse than everyone else) or complacent/lazy (because you think you're doing so much better).

The most accurate benchmark is your own channel. Take your stats from the previous month and try to better them this month. Keep the same approach as you keep growing and you'll find it to be much more challenging than you think.
