being different (gaming channels)

OzTalksHw

I Love YTtalk
i know i'm more of a tech person, but making technology videos are not as fun as they used to. to be honest, i find them more as a chore than anything when recording

so, i really want to dive into the gaming side of youtube. my only issue is, it's so saturated with younger, smaller channels that finding a decent gaming channel, or an active one for that matter, is pretty difficult

i understand how to be a gaming channel -- i get how to record, how to commentate, how to edit, etc as I have done a small gaming project in the past (ww.youtube.com/channel/UCSKiQQrX3RJLPyshBo4M1rg/videos) and i also had a tech youtube channel (now w/ like 2K subs or something)

tl;dr: my question is, how do you stand out from the crowd of whitewashed and banal gaming channels? what does it take to be different?

I would say, it's really the amount of effort you put into your videos.

You get what it is to record, edit, and render out videos. Though how much effort are you willing to put into your own project? It's really easy to start a gaming channel, though it's hard to stay consistent, entertaining, and make yourself worthy of getting that subscription.

Are you going to be an LP channel?

A gaming commentator?

Gaming journalist?

Reviewer?

Whichever you pick they ALL require something to get an audience. Whether it be personality, intelligence, a keen eye, or a pro-consumer taste.

I would say, that the amount of effort you put into your videos shows and that is what will most likely get you to stand out. Branding, editing, personality, the amount of energy you have while recording. Etc.

Really depends on what you want to do, and how much effort you can put into it.

Just remember to have fun. When you stop having fun. Your viewers will be able to tell.

Having a personality really helps a lot of channels are very boring and uninteresting even some of the larger channels are like this. My tips to you (As a gaming channel) is try to expressive and just interact with subs as much as possible they will appreciate it and actually try to be interesting get mad, go nuts (not to much), just be interesting. Its hard to explain so sorry if this isn't super helpful

not too sure what I want to be yet (didn't even know it could be sub grouped like that), but I get what you're saying. i have to put work in to get results which makes total sense. the last line is also a pretty good motto which is why i'm thinking of stopping the tech channel. it's no longer fun.

so all in all, if you work hard at it and have fun, people will notice and eventually check you out?

with that being said, if you were to give me one reason why i should sub to you, and not the other guy, what would it be though?

Basically. You got the picture friend.

I would tell you that I'm a video game reviewer who enjoys sharing fond memories of childhood games with his audience, whether they be good or bad memories. That I am pro-consumer and that I respond to every comment I receive within the day, because the one thing I love about YouTube more than growing an audience, is the interactions I can have with them.

I'm not a gaming channel personally but what I look for in a gaming channel is definitely the personality. It's sort of something you have or you don't. Don't give the viewer a dull moment where they'll wanna click off.

Check out my channel, it might give you an idea of something completely different done with games. You should also check out channels like Yungtown, he has a funny video called training day, where he satires new gaming channels LOL

Do the things most gamers can't or won't do:
- Play in with a group of funny and interesting people and put their audio into your video.
- Edit your video with graphics, music, and effects.
- Be really skilled at the game you are playing.

By doing these things you let the fans live vicariously through your videos:
- Playing the gametypes that people who don't have a large group of video game friends can't enjoy the same way will give them that experience. Example: Gametypes like prop hunt.
- Accomplishing things un-skilled players can't. Example: Get a moab in call of duty, getting a really challenging achievement
- Enhance moments in editing that would otherwise not be funny or would be less funny.

Don't play the same games that 90% of all gaming channels do on Youtube. You know what I'm talking about.
aww no minecraft </3 :P

yeah, i've been an avid viewer of Yungtown. i may do that in the future as a short segment or series, but for now, i want to stick with commentaries/walkthroughs
