Being A YouTuber Whilst Going To University?

Becky Keegan

The Nerd Of YTtalk
So in September I will be hopefully (If I get the grades) be starting University (College, for Americans :P), and especially since I will be living on campus (In halls, single bedroom's with a shared kitchen), I am really worried about the social anxieties that come with talking to a camera. Since I'll be getting back into youtube soon after a break, I'm really worried about this and was wondering if any YouTuber's who go to University (and live in halls) can give me some advice?
Thankyouuu

I go to an art school where a lot of people have active youtube accounts. There's actually a semi popular guy in one of my classes. Although, I can see the issue if you do vlogs. I do not do vlogs and I haven't seen anybody at my school walking around talking to a camera. Normally people will just want to see you channel if you are open about it. If you include your friends and roommates in your videos then it will be less awkward than if they walk in on you vlogging without them even knowing you have a youtube channel. The more they see you with a camera, the less they will "care". I'm a film major so it's not weird if I walk around filming stuff. As long as people know you like to make videos then those awkward situations won't really happen.

Just knock on each of your doormates doors, introduce yourselves and just let them know what you are doing. You're not talking to yourself, you are vlogging to hopefully grow a following on YouTube. ALOT of people will not only be okay with it, but will actually go out of their way and ask you what your channel name is to watch.

That's what I did with any roommates I have had. Always goes okay.

Thanks for the advice! The thing I was probably most worried about was doing videos with paper thin walls cause the people I will be living with will most likely hear me XD also I really hope they're okay with it and don't think I'm super strange [emoji23][emoji23]

Yeah the course that I will be (hopefully) doing is TV and Radio, which is a very media based course so there may be a few people in the class who have YouTube channels and can relate haha :3

Yeah I would just politely inform everyone that you do YouTube videos and that you're not talking to yourself haha, you can do this while just introducing yourself to your dorm mates

I don't live in dorms/halls, but I live in a small apartment with my wife, a 4 year old and a 6 month old. I post videos every day, stream twice per week, I am taking 4 college classes and I work a 40 hour per week job. I'm sure you can figure it out :)

Best of luck and congrats on going to University/College!
