I'm just curious as to what this community thinks about the Becoming YouTube series. It's been a pretty huge thing in the community, but I didn't come across any threads here chatting about it.

So what do you guys think?

I have been watching it from the first episode and think it's absolutely brilliant! However, I thought the last episode was a bit off from the rest. I kind of felt like Ben was trying to make a mountain out of a molehill with the whole "Nerfighteria" thing. I kind of got the impression that he was trying to tap into that audience by stirring the pot a bit. But nonetheless, I really enjoy the content and think it's really well produced. I'm equally (if not more) excited to see "Please Subscribe" in theaters on Tuesday! And then Shay's "I'm Vlogging Here". I'm loving all this YouTube media! I feel like it's growing up so quickly.

You know, I started to think that, but his conversation with John Green would have pulled in the audience anyway without getting them all reactionary. It was a little bit more pointed than I would have anticipated, but I think he made some valid points.

Also super excited to see Please Subscribe :)

I'm a part of the nerdfighter community, and it totally got a whole bunch of people all riled up. I'm a part of the Australian community though, and without constant youtube meetups and stuff, youtube fandom is completely different to the UK and the States, where they have Summer in the City and Vidcon and stuff like that. But yeah, he is going to get so many video responses that everyone will have heard about it.

I totally want to see Please Subscribe, but alas, I live in Australia. Becoming youtube on the whole is a great series and I love it.

Oh yeah, there's no doubt about that. The Tumblrs went crazy! I actually wonder if that caused him to upload the John Green conversation a day early, just to try and calm people down.

That's rough that there aren't meetups and such in Australia. I wonder if that'll change soon, as I understand the TV-industrial complex might not be as strong there?
 
Yeah, Australia is pretty behind in anything tv, movies and media. We don't produce anything that goes against the norm of suburban angst, outback struggles and cop shows when it comes to tv and movies. Unless you count kids shows, some of which are very good. Anything else is political satire which is usually crappy. Except for the Chasers. They are hilarious.

I don't know many big Aussie youtubers, other than communitychannel and frezned. So it looks like we're late to that party too. And Australia is so out of the way. It's far from the states and the uk and even within Aus, the population is spread out along the coasts. Which is why people don't do tours here as often. It's pretty far for a band travel to do a total of 7 or 8 shows in the major cities. So I think that's why we kinda miss the party. I think Hannah Hart may be coming here on her tour, and that is the first time I've heard of a tuber doing actual stuff here other than holidaying. I'm not a fan of her really, but I hope this encourages other people to come over here!
