Be a devil with your own channel.

I do all my own graphics!
One of the key things I've identified is the persons' inability (or lack) to perceive their channel objectively (I use this term rather loosely). It is easy to say, "This is what I need to work on!", but more than often we become attached to our channels (usually in some psychological manner) we cannot give it a truly objective rating.

How many times have we gone to other channels and were able to identify at least five elements wrong with it? From the banner to the way the content creator speaks, we are meticulous about everything the channel can potentially improve. You looked at the whole package. (Some of these "improvement elements" are subjectively made, but nonetheless something that you felt may require attention)

Now, when is the last time you have given your own content a good hard look to see where you need improvement? Did you look at it like a devil, troll, normal person, 10 year old kid, typical viewer?

I can assure you that if you stop and assess your channel like the devil, you will be able to see what needs improvement on your channel.

Disclaimer: There are a small number of channels which are doing brilliant--content wise--on Youtube, but have not been able to get the exposure they deserve. In these cases social/networking and pushing your content out to viewers (discovery) becomes more essential than looking at the channel objectively and improving the channel's content. Very few channels possess this level of brilliance, unfortunately, and chances are this is not the case with yours.

This, right here, is the reason I go through all the trouble of animating my very own arch nemesis... :D
...just to bash my channel in update videos. (you're too focused on subs, mike quality, etc)
Yep, I agree, many people can criticize others, but can't do it to themselves in a mirror.
Worse case scenario, if you can't objectively criticize yourself, ask your fellow subs for improvements. ;)

I've been trying to look at my channel in a different perspective.. I hope it's good hehe. I feel like if I was a random person I'd like what I saw.

True.

The issue with your latter statement, however, is if you aren't able to self-improve you end up relying on the opinions of others, which more than often ends in an unhealthy and negative experience. It's important to understand what people want (because that is part of self-improvement) but it's more important to be able to recognize these things on your own. :geek2:

I tend to watch my videos a few times before I upload them, this way I can identify something I need to work on for my next upload. I've found a few things that I'm fixing up and improving, so I guess in a way I'm fairly meticulous when it comes to having the best content I possibly can.

Sometimes I'll contact a fellow member and ask if they can "review" my channel, see if there is anything they want to point out or critique. :)

- My intro picture isn't very high quality
- Lens has focus issues
- Videos seem to have too many cut away jokes
- There are some clips of me looking at the screen and not the lens (though that's less of an issue now)
- My room is too cramped, which makes for a similar video background most times

I don't have a problem admitting faults or areas that need work, it's not like everything will be perfect out of the gate.

My channel is a piece of s**t, i dont even know how i got over 1k subs looooool
Good question, haha. It's probably your outlandish ways and crazy-wild hauls and unboxings. :cat2:[DOUBLEPOST=1393404296,1393404151][/DOUBLEPOST]

That's good you are recognizing those flaws! A lot of people have no clue where to start when it comes to critiquing their own content. :geek2:

I've never seen you post anything like, "I'm so depressed no one is watching my videos I dunno why, blah...", so that's also a good thing!

Like seriously i break most of the rules that people claim are the correct ways to run a successful youtube channel.

My content is all over the place and doesn't really stick to any specific type

I make content which straight up alienates large groups and demographics on a weekly basis

I dont bother doing proper collabs because f**k most people :)

And im pretty sure half my content is in possible breach of some of youtubes terms of service

In conclusion, f**k doing what everyone thinks you should and just do what ever the f**k you want :D YOLOSWAGMONEY
