AVCHD How do I convert?

I recorded using my girlfriends camera (rather than my iPhone) to see if the quality was better. Ive got all the footage I want but it's recorder in AVCHD, which I can't seem to convert or use in iMovie.
Am I going to need to record this again or is there something I can do?

iMovie should automatically convert it. I had a bit of an issue with my old camera in that it wouldn't recognize the files unless I imported them straight from the camera, so maybe try that?

yeah I have the same ACVHD and it converts automatically. Just go to iMovie to the top right, and find where it says upload from camera, and just click upload. It will prompt you with a screen that shows you all your clips, and check mark the ones that you want to upload to iMovie. Good luck
