Audio or Lighting?

I Love YTtalk
So i'm trying to decide over a microphone (Rode Videomic Pro) or a diva ring light. Now I am going to eventually get both but I don't know which one to get right now. I'm leaning towards the light because my friend has one and when we were filming a video I was in love with it.

Well as you know both are quite essential when a video is made. But the visual quality usually comes first now-a-days. The ring light should be what you get first and then yes the video mic pro, I have that mic and it is amazing.

Yes the Video mic Pro does work on it. I have the T3i myself. But once you do get it, be reminded that you must adjust the settings within the camera.

In my opinion audio is more important, people cant listen to really bad audio without getting annoyed but they can forgive poor lighting here and there. I would ditch the ring light completely and try and get a softbox kit on the cheap as well as the microphone.

I think getting the Mic would be a better option. For example in my videos I don't have great quality in both areas at the moment but people have commented on the volume rather than quality. I would want to watch someone & hear what they are saying instead of struggling the whole time trying to figure out volume on yt & computer

Actually after reading @Michael reply, I agree. Forget the ring light. It is portable but for now just continue to use natural light and get the mic. Save up for some softboxes.

As someone that was int the same predicament I bought a Rode video mic cause they were both 150$ and the audio is more important true, but there are many other ways even cheaper to get the same look or effect. First most video editing systems will allow you to change lighting kinda, for instance for one of my tests I had a yellow tint like in my profile picture, but after one click in final cut pro x I cam out a crisp white as if full LED set or natural lighting, I also invested in 22$ worth of LED light bulbs that have a soft white tint to help with he effect, lastly I believe you should invest in a lightbox kit or even a LED light that are found on amazon and other places, the point is you don't need a 150$ diva light ring to get that crisp halo glow on your videos. Sorry for if some of this doesn't make sense when I listen to music my mind gets things confused.

Good Luck.

Audio is my demon. The sound is so I important for the things we do and we don't have it right yet. We have a list of things go acquire. It's always good when your hobby starts to rack up the $$$.

But hey we have fun.

Good luck peeps.
