What do you guys think is better for SEO, ranking and more views,
A long video with long "average view duration"
or
A short video that has a "high average percentage viewed"
I would love to read your experiences ?

YouTube algorithm favors longer view duration based on what I've read. As important as that is, I find retention percentage important as well. It's a good visual representation on how captivating your videos are for your audience. I usually find the video length "sweet spot" and produce videos with that duration in mind. For me, it's about 3 minutes and 30 seconds (averages 75% retention rate).

Yup, like what PictureFit said. Long view duration is more important although retention percentage is also important. Another thing that's important for SEO that many don't know is if your videos during the first 48 hours are being watched natively on Youtube. Youtube favours views watched while in Youtube as opposed to as embed in other websites.

YT states that total watch time is important, not only your video but the overall session time on the site. So if your videos get people to watch other videos that should be good.
For our channel the suggested videos on the right are our videos and some large channels. So if viewers click those after watching us I think it benefits us as we directed them to a popular video and increased the overall watch time.
