Are MCN's worth it? What Do You Think?

This is a question that I wanted to bring up to the community considering that we have all thought about joining an MCN or we are currently partnered with one. If you don't know an MCN is a Multi- Channel Network, that is supposed to serve as a helping hand for partnered channels. Some assist you with certain tools from copyright free audio, social media tracking/management tools and they also provide the community aspect with Network forums where you can reach out to your peers. I was recently partnered an MCN but I have been released from my contract after 2 1/2 years (by my request).

In hind site I have realized that an MCN may not really be worth it; in todays YouTube world many of the tools that used to be exclusive to MCN's are now available to the public if you know where to look and some are provided directly from YouTube. IMO I believe that MCN's have to provide more exclusive services or hands on channel development and exposure in order to be worth it for content creators to give up, up to, 40% of their earnings. Nowadays you have to be very mindful of who you choose to partner with as well, many MCN's out there aren't concerned your growth, at least from my experience. For example I joined RPM during their genesis and loved every aspect of it I was very involved in the community and I was even featured in the RPM Spotlight (embedded below) but things seemed to change and there weren't any other opportunities after the Maker Gen. conversion.

Financial reporting began to be 2 and 3 months behind but I am not scorned or bitter but after leaving that situation I realized that I may not need an MCN, especially in the early stages of my channel. Maybe when I expand my reach and need more connections I may partner up again but even then I can't think of any reason for it. The overall structure of an MCN would have to change to something more catered to the content creator and really develop a channel 1 on 1 in order for it to be worth my time. What do you think?

Quickly glancing at your channel, I would say no. But you seem to be on your way for having them really knock down your door to work with you!

I have never thought about signing with an MCN and I never will... I see them as more of a chance of getting screwed. I'm sure there are some good MCNs out there but you don't know if the one you're thinking about signing with is gonna screw you over or not until you sign with them, but by that time it's too late and you're stuck with them for whatever minimum time period you signed for...
