Are giveaways really worth it?

As most of you probably know, giveaways always draw in a lot of views, sometimes even double (or more) your usual audience, but are they really worth it? While giveaways draw in a lot of views and subscribers (as you usually have to be subscribed to be eligible for the giveaway) after it's over, what's to stop these people from unsubscribing, or just stop watching your videos, as the giveaway is over? So what I want to know from you guys is: Do you think giveaways are worth it? Do they actually help your audience grow? Post in the comments below!

If you do a giveaway make sure its at the end of a video or something, just make sure they see your content and have a chance to experience and like you stuff before seeing a reward. I've entered a couple of giveaways, but they just did a video about the giveaway not, normal content with a clip about the giveaway!

Thats what I did I actually hid the prize for my giveaway in the video it makes it more interactive for the viewer. They are more likely to pay attention to future video that may contain hidden messagesto future giveaways or exciting up coming events.

Honestly, no. People will just use you for said giveaway. Many people will subscribe, and do the other requirements for the giveaway, and once it's over, whether they won or not, they will undo it all. You will most likely loose subscribers. I highly suggest not doing giveaways, at least not as a way to boost your audience. Maybe wait until you have a large audience.

I did a simple little giveaway when I reached 100 subscribers. I gained probably 10 or so subscribers from it, and afterwards I ended up with less than I did in the beginning. The person who won the giveaway ended up unsubscribing, though he occasionally visits my channel some times. I know he unsubscribed because about a few months later he subscribed again, and 2 other times after that. I guess he couldn't make up his mind :giggle:

If you're doing a giveaway purely based on the fact you will get more views then you are doing it for the wrong reasons. Many youtubers have lost a large percentage of their audience due to them only doing giveaways in order to attract an audience that doesn't really give 2 s***s about the content you even have to offer. Th main reason for a giveaway should be to reward fans for their commitment to your channel and at most only asking for a comment to be put into a hat to be drawn.

Likes and subs both promote your channel which a lot of viewers can pick up on and if they feel this is the only reason you are doing this then it can make them turn against you.

I agree with this. If its just to gain subs they wont care about your content. I see it as a thankyou to those who do continue to watch my content and I dont ask for subs I leave a frame or 2 with the information on the giveaway those who see it like my content anyway. I would only do a big giveaway like a game or something once I hit a sub milestone bevause those are the ones who stuck with me since the beginning and that my thankyou.

Yeah I totally agree with Kevin here. Sure, maybe when you build up a large fan base, a give away would be a nice thing to do for your subscribers if you really wanted to do it. But as far as helping your channel grow? Probably won't do much over all. Like Kevins said "People will just use you for said giveaway"

Yeah I totally agree with this! A few weeks ago I had an argument with someone who said it does build your audience, but what's the incentive to keep watching after the giveaway's over?

I do giveaways. Mostly with the indie games that I like and when I reach a milestone. I don't care if they don't subscribe, I just want them to comment that they like to have that game then they're in for the giveaway? Worth it? For me, yes, since I'll be able to support the indie game devs and I'll be able to make people happy.xD

Don't do a giveaway for the mass but for your loyal fans/sub(s) that likes, favorite, comment ect your video's.
