An Unsettling Channel

So, I need an explanation for something...

I recently stumbled across a channel (shan't say the name) which seemed wrong in every way. The guy had a fair amount of videos his subscribers were in the tens of thousands, but most of his videos had less than 100 views. A few of his uploads had ridiculously high view counts, but next to no comments or likes.
I should probably also mention that the guy himself was very strange and his content was pretty awful.

Browsing his channel was kind of like walking around a haunted house...on the internet. Really quite unsettling.

Does anyone know how the numbers became so skewed?

Take my personal channel for example "Zesty Mike". I have 10,000 subscribers yet my videos currently get 100-300 views per video. However some of my old videos have closer to a million. Back before college I would do comedy sketches and music videos and my channel got very popular for them. Then when I went to college I could not continue so I switched over to vlogs. Now that I do vlogs not nearly as many people enjoy them so I have lost the majority of my audience. So although my number says 10k it's probably closer to 500.[DOUBLEPOST=1381118931,1381118882][/DOUBLEPOST]
How do they work?
They are basically just fake numbers. They have a system that watches the video over and over again and tallies up the views. This is not a good idea if you want to ever have a successful channel though.

he sounds broke.

botting means you dont gain any cash from your videos but you paid for them to be there, stupid premise.
