Adwords Promotion...

Has anyone here used Youtube Adwords promotion? I've done it enough times to get a decent grasp of the positives and negatives.

I'm about to release a web series, Axis of Action, and released the trailer last week. Of course I want as many people to see the trailer as possible, so I put in for some promotion. Now if you have a catchy title, cool thumbnail, and good description you'll get more from your promotion no doubt, BUT STILL...

Positives: View count does go up. Though even if you have an excellent promotion, it's still likely to be $10-20 per 1,000 views.

Negatives: No likes and comments. What the heck? Where are these views coming from? How can I have a video, which I didn't promote, with 10x fewer views but double the likes and comments? Makes me think youtube promotion is sending ghost viewers and it's a straight scam. I've promoted upwards of 10 videos and can't think of a single one where the comments and likes rose post promotion.

Anyone have similar or differing experiences?
 
Promoted another video and saw my views increase by 1000+ in a day HOWEVER, absolutely zero of these views show up on my adsense day by day report. They are phantom views. Really starting to think adwords youtube promotion is a scam.
 
Maybe it's because it is one of the videos shown at the beginning of another video and maybe youtube does put the views of your ad to the video. Therefore the people weren't actually on your video site but on someone's other and they saw your video just through an ad without beeing able to comment it..

Interesting point! If that's the case, what's the point of doing the promotions? Don't you want to bring people to your channel? There must be better ways of advertising...
 
There is another way, called cpc advertising aka count-per-click advertising where you just have to pay if the person actually clicks on the ad to come to your channel!

Unfortunately youtube does not support that type or at least I think it doesn't...

Therefore you have to pay for views and once in a while someone clicks on it, maybe even on purpose hahaha^^
