I've Got It
Hey all,

I've been hovering around this part of the forum for a couple of weeks now reading different stories about partnerships but I still haven't been tempted one way of the other and need some general advice. A little summary of my channel first.
  • Mostly a tech channel, focusing on Tablet reviews, tutorials, opinions. Occasional other showpiece stuff
  • 1.5 million video views, 2.3k subs, 10,000 views a day
  • Current monetizing the videos I film/edit (i.e. ones with strictly my content)
  • Try to do a video every day. Probably average 5 a week. 300+ videos. Had my channel for 5 years but started making videos on a regular basis 10 months ago.
I have been approached twice for partnerships, one was TGN the other I can't remember but so far seen no reason to partner. At the moment I have a heap of questions I don't know the answers to. These are.

Considering the size and content of my channel, who should I be looking to partner with?
What sort of deal should I trying to strike (TGN seem to offer 80/20)?

I don't want to lock myself into a long term contract because I feel that my channel has the potential to take off beyond what it is now (so far it's been very gradual momentum, but I think one video might spark off a big upsurge. Again TGN seem to offer a 30 day rolling contract which attracts me but what are the potential downsides?

I am fully aware that some of my videos are matched-third party videos. I'm happy with that, I don't expect to earn money from them. I either do them because I have a cool idea and I want people to see it or they are show piece works to demonstrate my abilities and to expose my work to people, not to earn money. However, I read that networks won't accept ANY third party stuff. I want to continue to have the freedom to pick and choose what is monetized. Is that possible?

I already get most of the partner benefits such as longer videos, thumbnails and so on. Other than a banner, what other benefits can partnering offer me? I mostly interested in a partner's ability to promote my work/channel.

Judging from my own statistic, the majority (60%) of my views come from what are called "Mobile apps and direct traffic (unknown sources)". That means they are watching via apps and links that don't take them to a youtube page. Does that have a serious impact on income for partners? I still don't understand all the concepts of CPM, CPC etc. (I mean I understand the phrase but not the implications really).

First of all I really appreciate you reading the whole post and I'll be even more appreciative if you respond with useful advice and opinions.

Networks do not accept any third party content because once you upload a video there is no toggle to monetize it or not. It's instantly claimed. For now my suggestion is to just stay an individual partner. YouTube should be rolling out branding options to people sometime in the near future.

Yea. Probably the best idea.

Is that a definite no arguing, can't be contested, once you're partnered you are completed lock into what they do and say with how money is earned from your channel?

You have the ability to pick and choose what video's you monetize i joined with fullscreen as there pay out rate isn't as high as tgn but i heard alot of complaints about tgn and that was on there own chat program on there site. As for mobile traffic it all depends i guess alot of apps won't show advertisements so it wouldn't pay for anything. CPM = $ per thousand monetized views, CPC = cents per click. you have a great chanel going on. What i could also see you benefiting from if you get partnered is the music and and free audio files from being a partner would allow you to monetize more video's. Keep up the great work, 10k views a day is amazing keep up the great work.

In my network, if I were to upload a video that contains copyrighted material I would have to contact the ad management of my network with a link to my video, etc. And they will handle it. I'm assuming that it means they will disable monetization for that video however I am not completely sure. Make sure to request a copy of the contract and read it over.

If those videos are up and you apply, they will not even accept you into the Network if you have any copyrighted material. If they accept you, then you're okay,
