im sorry if this is in the wrong place but i was looking and i tought this was the place to post this cuz it has to do with monetize and/or copyright..
so my question is, can you use a song for your video, like just 10 secongs of a song, and you singing on top the song, will u get a strike or copyright for that?

Yeah you could. You can't have ANY audio of ANY famous songs in your videos without the threat of a copyright strike. That's why I'd do it but not monetize personally.

so that means not even 10 second of the instrumental, ok here is what i wanted to do. im gonna talk about something, but then when i say something, im gonna put a clip of me singing a song with just the music/ instrumental in the background... and im stil monetizing the video.. so can i do that o no?

Like Symph says you could still get hit with a strike. I would upload it to another channel to see if the strike comes up first then upload it to yours. As for monetizing it...well that's up to you. I'd be a liar if I said I never used any short clips of copywritten music on monetized videos. Call it a perk of being a partner...and trust me out perks our running dry pretty quick.

You can man, but I can't guarantee you won't get into any kind of trouble for it. They COULD just block the video and it will say "contains content owned by blah blah blah" and not play it, or it COULD get you a copyright strike if a complaint is filed. They have computers that are programmed to listen for copyrighted songs, and any amount of time long enough that the song is recognizable is enough to get it to count. If you wanna do it anyway go for it, you may not have anything bad happen, but there's no way to really know for sure. Some people get away with everything on youtube, some people can't seem to get away with anything.

It does not matter if it is 2 seconds or the full song. Copyright is copyright. EVERYTHING is copyrighted. You cannot use anyones music in your videos without written permission from the original artist addressed to you specifically. Their is no such thing as copyright free. Don't try to test your luck. Just don't use it. If you really want though, you can attempt to reproduce a close replica to it (with some changes), so you will not have to pay for it. The theme song of star wars was copied loosely so they didn't have to pay rights. Thats my advice. :)
