Is this perhaps a hoax?

Straight to the point. I am not really a YT'r and really know nothing about it. I have a grand total of four vids up on YT. Two are public and the other two are private for only my family and friends to have seen. (I say "have seen" because these two were put up year's ago when my two grand daughter's were very young). One of the other two were put up, for fun, on my wife's birthday last May and the other of the two on the 12th of December wishing, what little friend's I have on FB, a Merry Christmas (this one was made with my iPhone, so nothing at all professional). The vid placed May has 11 views and the one place earlier this month has a whopping total of 8 views.

Now my problem is...yesterday I received an email from YT saying:

"We noticed that one of your videos is becoming popular on YT. We love seeing our creators be successful, and we’d like to invite you to monetize your video

First, opt your account into monetization from your Acct Settings, and then opt your eligible videos into monetization by visiting your Vid Manager.

Have fun and good luck"

(to begin with I can't determine which video they're referring to, nor can I understand how they can say that one of my video's is becoming popular allowing for how few views I have on them. I find this strange).

So I say to myself, what the hell...I'll do as they've instructed and went to my Acct Settings, clicked on Monetization, then on the blue button entitled "Enable My Account". However when I click on that blue button it turns a (lighter) shade of blue and stays that way forever or until I refresh page. I've tried this now at least 15-20 time's. When I go to my Vid Manager and click Edit on either of my four videos (as instructed) I don't see an option for monitizing that video or anything remotely similar to that.

So...I figure that either the email I received was a hoax or knowing me, I'm dong something wrong somewhere.

If it's not a hoax, then how do I solve this problem to get Monitization? It's not that I'm really worried about this. It's never been my thought's nor intention's to make any money on YouTube, but like I said, I thought to myself if the opportunity arises then why not jump for it? I have no illusion's of grandeur, btw. ;-))

Please keep in mind, if your replying, that you're talking to a total noob on all this with no inkling of an idea on what's going on, so, please keep it civil.

All help on this is really appreciated and

TIA

Yes. it's legit.
I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Expect to earn about 1-3$ for each 1,000 views your videos get.

Youtube puts advertisements on your videos and then shares the advertisement revenue with you.

It's a trap.
You cannot monetize anything with content that isn't yours.
Like that video on your channel you don't own the music so when you monetize it, your adsense will be deleted.

A few things...

That matches the wording YouTube uses. (well, a couple small discrepancies... but maybe that was during posting to the forum or just a different version we're not finding)

These emails are likely automated and can get flagged (sent out) for various reasons. (odd based on your only public video, but who knows)

Notice the phrase "opt your eligible videos into monetization". (aka 100% original content or content you have the rights to monetize)

The only public video on your channel has someone else's music.... so you should not attempt to monetize it! (unless you purchased rights that allow this... which is unlikely)

As far as the "Enable My Account" button, here are some threads...

Basic summary... Did you have an ad blocker enabled? Did you try another browser? Are you 18+? Do you have account issues? (not in good standing, etc)

Lastly, you could post the email headers if really think it wasn't from YouTube. This might reveal if it actually was not. To find these... search Google for "find email headers" + your email client name.

Hope that helps!

They basically get sent out to people with over 2k views in total.

Basically a way for YouTube to get more money, don`t expect much though maybe 1-3$ per 1000 views ,split 50/50
