Is it worth to reboot a dying channel?

N

No don’t delete it. Sometimes YT will have a rebump on those old videos. It depends also if a successful channel somewhat suggested one of your old videos. It happened to my channel once, an old video was being suggested by one channel that has more traffic than ours. You can do a 15-30min compilation of your old videos, group them as per topic or category then give it a new title.

The problem is that all my old old videos are crappy random videos I uploaded of my pet bird (164 videos like this). Channel was created in 2011 but I didn't use it at all until 12 months ago uploading videos of my pet bird... so even though one video I uploaded 7 months ago "blew up" and got nearly 40,000 views it did nothing to help my channel =(

Now even though I switched to uploading higher quality content like 'what I eat in a day" videos... my new videos barely getting any views at all =(

I don't want to hijack this thread as I submitted a thread about this a couple hours ago in this section of the forum... but I am so confused I don't know if it's best for me to start from scratch or not.

Are you using tags?

Are you using tags?

Yes, on my new videos I used lots of tags... oddly the one video I posted 7 months ago of my pet bird that got about 40,000 views has no tags. I have a thread in this forum called "I would be incredibly grateful for your advice..."...
I posted about some things in that thread and would really appreciate your advice. My bad, sorry I didn't mean to hijack this thread.

You are lucky to get noticed by the algo. Try to create a new video related to it or same topic. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice. We already stopped the s4s months ago but those guys still comein and leave comments. If they did we just either pass it on or comment on their video if we like it. Do you think we should just ignore them or shut off the comments section?

It's not the comments that are hurting you, it's the low % retention they watch as they comment and bounce. I would work to matching their views with real views. So if you get 40 views from them, look to get 40 views from real viewers. Even better, get 100 views from real viewers, so their ones have less weight. You'll find real viewers will want to comment too, which is what you want.[DOUBLEPOST=1507249963,1507249870][/DOUBLEPOST]
Is it a good idea in that case to simply DELETE all old videos that barely got any views or is that of no benefit?

That's the last thing you want to do. That's like Chef Ramsay finally flipping out, calling everyone a donkey, and throwing all the ingredients out the door and booting customers out his restaurant.

What you want is good quality viewers who give you real view % retention. In time, they will eclipse the s4sbers who will have little effect.

That is the issue. We are trying our best get those real views unfortunately we are having no luck yet. We tried paid promotions in Facebook but that didn’t help at all. So what we do now is just share our vids in twitter, facebook, and g+. Just post it there and then pray that it will rain with views.[DOUBLEPOST=1507250301,1507250086][/DOUBLEPOST]

The reason why I ask if we can turn off the comments is for those s4sbrs to leave and stop coming back. Maybe they will stop visiting if we do that. What do you think?

That's completely wrong!
You target audience, 3-5 year olds, are not on Fb, Tw, and certainly not G+. Yes their parents might be, but they are not in "let's find a good channel for our kids to watch on Yt while I'm tweeting on Twitter". Don't bother Fb ads unless you are building a native audience on Fb. Ads there are very expensive, the click through rate to your Yt channel will be less than 1%, more like 0.1%. Advertise on Fb only if you have native uploads there and are trying to build a business there, like affiliate toys sales, for example.
If you advertise, do so with adwords on Yt. Have a strategy. Determine your success factors. Allocate a budget. Your videos will be next in line to be clicked by your target audience all for 1 cent a view.
But adwords alone won't fix the problem. You need to adopt an octopus approach, using multiple strategies. Look to shadows channels in the next sub level to you that have experienced a growth spurt, look for leading trends and jump on them, etc.[DOUBLEPOST=1507250585,1507250489][/DOUBLEPOST]

Can turn them off, should be no issues. I usually take a week to approve comments, I've seen no effects on traffic at all. Perhaps try to set all comments for manual approval first, see how that goes. if people see comments turned off, they might think "what's going on, strange!" So just set them to approve first, give it a week, and see what happens.

Yeah that is why we stopped promoting in FB. I will try and see adwords and set a budget there.

We will set the comments to manual mode right away. Right now what I did was 6 months ago I put some words to be blocked or filtered automatically, it does work but sometimes still a few are getting through. We really want them s4sbrs to leave us alone. i think its 6 months already that we stopped doong it after we reached that 1k subs. We are now just letting our channel grow on its own. Though i could say it was really slow growth. I think we gained 200 subs without doing s4s after 6 months. I think the real views are coming in but really slow.[DOUBLEPOST=1507251677][/DOUBLEPOST]Another thing we are testing now is to get our videos suggested by our own videos. Though I think that is konda tough if you are a small channel. Basically YT will suggest big channels that has a related video from yours.

What's this coupon. I'm missing things. I'm tired. I've only seen a coupon from Facebook and I've been spamming people (to their chagrin) with Adwords forever. Literally forever. Check whatever history book you want. Man, I'm slap happy right now.

Wondering the same thing, what is this coupon? Sorry to hijak the thread.
