Hi! I'd appreciate any constructive criticism on my channel. I recently started (revamped from my older stuff) at the beginning of the month and am starting to get into a routine/schedule of what I want with it but any comments are appreciated. I feel like my first few videos were a bit slow to start with me getting comfortable but I'm starting to get there. Thanks for taking the time
Ok so I've just check out a couple vids starting with your most recent Just Cause vid:
Your voice is a bit quiet. It's not drowned out but I found the gameplay audio was way more prominent and detracted from your commentary.
As far as the commentary context went I thought it was a bit vague. The crash bits were fun but I found there were a lot of moments where you paused and I imagined you thinking (ah crap.....what do I say now......I know!). I always suggest speaking to the audience directly as if they were a friend, your neighbour, cousin whatever. Chat with them in a one sided way, sometimes I even put words in people's mouths to make them giggle like if I did in a game and I say something like 'Don't you judge me! I know I messed up! You're always having a go at me!!!' (Obviously in a very sarcastic tone

)
The context of the video also seemed a bit odd to me. I'd have loved to watch a video on a mission, a little game you've made up or challenge etc rather than a driving bit followed by shooting stuff with a chopper.
I also checked out your vid on Expendabros and I liked the interaction with your and your friend. With this one the commentary was a bit too loud for me in regard to the audio peaking. If you compress the audio (don't know if you are or not) viewers don't need to worry about volume spikes and ear pain if the volume changes.
I'd advise shortening this video with jump-cuts, really dig into the meatier parts of the video. Anything over 20 minutes isa bit tricky to hold people's attention and even before they click the video most people will think 'ah do I really have 20 minutes to spare for an unknown YouTuber still learning the ropes?.....Yeah I'm off to Game Grumps'.
Your artwork could use a bit of tweaking. I like the banner and icon so that's cool, but with the thumbnails I think the text is too small and the game title's would look better as the game's actual png'd titles. I'd suggest removing the 'episode' text and replacing it with '#', people will know it represents the number of the series and give your image more room.
The focus of the images is also a bit too far away. For example the image of your recent just cause video could look a lot better if the car is much larger (let's say for example the right half of the image). Then you could add the Just Cause title in the bottom or top left corner and add the '#4' in the other corner. If you also up the contrast it'll make the image pop a lot more (remember, look at the image when it's about the size of your thumb on your monitor and see if anything is still readable/prominant).
Lastly concerning titles I'd suggest changing things up slightly to make it look neater. Using 'Just Cause 3 - Ep. 4 - RICO PRO RACER' as an example:
RICO: PRO RACER! | Just Cause 3 (#4)
Just Cause 3 | Episode 4: RICO PRO RACER!
Rico Pro Racer! | JUST CAUSE 3 - Episode 4
It just makes it easier to segment information so people can glance at the important parts with less confusion.
Sorry I went on a while, hope it helps =D[DOUBLEPOST=1456857947,1456857148][/DOUBLEPOST]
I know my channel isn't a gaming one, but would love a critique
Well the first thing I saw on your page was the 'Welcome to Java Central' video. I liked the animation bit but the rest seemed to drop in quality: The audio of your voice had this nasty ringing sound in the background (Any idea what that is?).
The room you were in made your voice reverb a bit too much so I'd advise recording in a smaller room or getting some kind of sound proofing (whether that be foam slabs or a mattress etc).
Finally the lack of music before/after the animation made me focus on the lack of music. When you have this nice sounding intro the mind then expects to have music linked to the next piece now you've demonstrated the use of it in the first place.
Anyhoo next I check out: 'How to make Coffee Butter and Creamer Butter'.
The audio's much better (maybe revisit your channel video to keep up the quality) and I like set-up of the shot you use.
Again some music would help liven up the video if it's really subtle.
When you show the bits you need to make the mixture It'd be cool to see footage of the items up close to replace your facecam here and there (gives a lot of context) and maybe even a smaller box in the corner showing what you're doing with your hands.
Some jump cuts here and there may help. You were doing a solid job of your commentary but if there ever are bits whrere you don't have much to show/talk about just cut it out rather than add filler.
That's all I got. Hope it's useful =D[DOUBLEPOST=1456858422][/DOUBLEPOST]
I'd love a review, I'm constantly improving so I'd like you to watch the latest upload
Okay so I check out the video. First off I'd advise against plugging the like & sub stuff so early on. If no-one's seen your videos before they want an incentive to sub, a reason. If they've not seen your content yet and you ask them to like/sub etc it'll make them either disregard the suggestion or sometimes even quit the video then and there. This kinda stuff is better for the end of the video when your invested fans/viewers have obviously liked the content and are engaged.
Good use of imagery, I like how you showed the articles etc. However when you have a bit where you read a headline some key-framing might be cool to have it horizontally view or zoom into the text to add motion to the videos.
Some subtle music would be cool, all I can hear besides your voice is air con (?) so it'd really help the themeing of the content.
I think a Facecam would be cool in this type of vid. Viewers will get a better perspective of your reactions/personality.
Finally an endcard might help. A few video links, the subscribe button etc with annotations and people may hop onto another video or even subscribe.[DOUBLEPOST=1456859056][/DOUBLEPOST]
I would love to have a review on my channel,
honest opinion is highly appreciated.
so please be mean to me xD jk
First off great job on the thmbnails/consistency.
With the Let's Plays in mind the commentary is a bit too reactionary. By this I mean there's a lot of 'Oh, ah, Oh i see, Got it, Oh no!' etc. When someone's watching your Let's Play they want you to talk to them as well. For example you could talk about your impressions of the game, make jabs at the design/quirky parts of the game, berate the viewers for making you play badly etc.
Right now when I watch your vids it's almost like I'm watching through your window watching you play games rather than sitting on the sofa with beer enjoying the banter. Especially with the horror games/weird games there is so much opportunity for happiness, anger, bewilderment, bafflement, anxiousness, sarcasm etc. Mainly: pep-up the commentary by treating the viewer as a friend who you're talking to while playing, rather than an audience watching your video.
Also I'd advise you getting a Twitter (if you don't already have one) and link it to your page. That way people can tweet you and you can tweet your videos for exposure.
Other than that good start buddy! Keep up the consistency and don't settle for ok, go for gold =]
