HOW TO USE INSTAGRAM TO PROMOTE!!!??

I know one method where you search a popular hashtag that is relevant to your channel. Then you go through the posts on that hashtag and like all of them, you just have to hope that they get curious enough to check out your channel. If they do and like your content then BOOM new subscriber.
On my old channel I used this method, but I stared this channel and I don't do this because I find the method "dirty" so I wanna keep it clean on my current channel.

I'm planning to do this, but instagram makes it hard because I have all my videos on my laptop. And I can't upload that way. It is also annoying that you can't put a link to your video on each post and can only point users to view your profile. Any advice? Or do I have to copy the vid clips to my phone and upload that way?

you can't put links on your posts that correct, and you can't post from laptop. But what I do I create short clips with quick magic tricks, and then I upload them to Google Drive and download them from there to my phone voila! :D

This is what I do :)

I do magic, and I use my Instagram account to post, short 5-35sec magic clips along with photos of my career, life and other fun stuff(most often magic related). Instagram is cool too because it has that hashtag system that makes you reach millions of people with the same interest as you, AWESOME i know.
Now how does this relate to youtube? Well in my case I have my Youtube link on my Instagram page, so If people like me on insta and digg what I do, they might hop over to my YT channel and check it out, and hopefully love it.)
My YT is also different, there I make little bit longer videos, reaction stuff and talk more. So its not the same.

Does this make any sense to you? :)

What sort of traffic do you get?
So if your Instagram has 1000 followers, and 1 post has 100 likes, can you track how much clicks to YT you would get?
Or perhaps how much traffic in total you got from Instagram to YT in 1 month?

For us, we have 5k followers, but less than 0.1% traffic, if that comes to YT. So I gave up on it a few months ago, but recently have started posting stuff again, want to see if I can get some decent traffic to hop over.[DOUBLEPOST=1473788575,1473788218][/DOUBLEPOST]The problem with Instagram, like most social media sites, is they want to keep viewers on their feed, so make it hard to hop over to another social site. The single biggest reason why such a low % go from Inst --> Yt is because you can't link in the post, and how many people are going to bother to go to your profile page, find the link, then click and go to Yt? Virtually no one.
The thing with Instagram may be to build a community there around dedicated content, then monetize it by doing promotional posts with something like Famebit. There are quite a few gigs on Famebit dedicated to Instagram that might be interesting for a general content/vlog channel

Do you think it's a good idea to post a cliffhanger type of video clip and ask users to continue watching on youtube? My videos are only a few minutes, but I'm certainly not posting the full think on Instagram.

I thought about this question too and I have some ideas that I would implement on my instagram account. Just remember that IG is an extension to your promo. Not just upload videos to your feed because that will defeat the purpose of bringing traffic to your YT channel. Instead, you can post animations, pictures, promo flyers or behind-the-scene images.

Here are some suggestions I have used in the past:

-Add a link to your channel or latest video to your bio.
-Make teaser video clips of your video (5, 10 or 15 secs).
-Produce and post 1 minute videos once in a while.
-Take pictures of behind scenes as post them in your feed.
-Post at least once a day on instagram.
-Make use of the new "Story" feature to engaged with your current followers.
-Use the following apps to share and upload videos/images:
Download, Phonto, Flipagram, PicPlayPost,Repost
-Screenshot your channel and post it on your feed.
-Use relevant hashtags.
-Use geotags as much as possible, so local people can find you.
-If you produce videos about businesses, sporting events or product reviews, don't forget to tag the organizations/businesses. They all love the promo from customers and they might repost your stuff or better yet you might get business from them.

Hope this helps.

Good luck,

Will
