How does YouTube respond to copyright claims?

I've read stories on the forums about videos being stolen on uploaded by thieves. I've seen a few of my favorite Youtubers' videos appear on now terminated channels. Has anyone ever had to file a copyright claim? How long did it take YouTube to respond? What were the results? I definitely like to know this information for future reference for any possible problems.

I did it once. It took around 24 hours for the movie to be removed.

How long did it take YouTube to respond?

24 - 48 business hours for your first couple of complaints then it usually becomes automated and instant.

What were the results?

The video will be removed and the user will be given a copyright strike.
