Why Does Uploading Lower My Quality?

I've recently started creating videos and every time I upload them to youtube, the quality drops. I have no idea why.

Currently I create videos in 1080 at 30fps in Premiere (which isn't super crazy) but when I upload to youtube the highest quality I can watch my videos in is 480. Why might that be? What can I do to fix it? Does this have to do with the way I'm exporting my videos from Premiere?

I am aware it takes some time to upload but I've waited 6 hours for some of these videos (that are only 2 minutes long) and the issue persists.

Most of my videos consist of video game content, would the specific content be a reason as to why my frames are dropping so much?

In addition when I upload to youtube, the video has grey boxes on the top and bottom as well as black on each side. Why isn't my video encompassing the entire video box on youtube?

Anything helps, thank you!

The standard export settings for youtube videos are:
-codec: H.264
-file type: .mp4
-dimensions 1920 x 1080
-frame aspect ratio: 16:9 square pixels
-frame rate: any really. 25fps, 30fps and now 60fps (depends on the original source file frame rate. the videos you edit)

Youtube does not normally lower quality like that, maybe check your internet connection or render settings?

As @AlexGotBeats said make sure you have those render settings:
SPECIFICALLY "dimensions 1920 x 1080"
I had the same problem and couldn't figure out. I was recording and editing in 1920 x 1080 but uploading for 1280 x 720, it definitely makes a difference!

I have rarely heard of YT lowering the quality settings of a video unless that person uses they auto fix pop up when a video is uploaded on a channel. Check your render settings first though.

Well if I'm not the dumbest guy around. My export settings weren't set properly. Thank you guys! I really appreciate it!
