Video Editing Software Won't Publish in HD?

I'm using an older version of Cyber PowerDirector (v8) and I filmed a video in HD with my new camera. It looked awesome when I watched the raw .wmv file on my computer.

However, when I was finished editing the video, it exported as a .wmv at the highest HD setting and came out looking worse than what I'd started with. I'm thinking about just getting a new video editor--but is there anything I can do to minimize this problem? Any free editing programs that won't do this?

Windows movie maker sure won't You should review your export settings, maybe kbps rate low, hard to tell without seeing what kind of settings you have to set before exporting.

Older versions of PowerDirector only do up to 720P.

It's a co-incidence that I was looking at my old XP copy only yesterday wondering if it would run on Win8, and noticed that the maximum video format is limited.

That's probably the problem. *Edit - I just checked the V8 spec and it's definitely limited to 720P.

I always use Microsoft Movie Maker, it's pretty easy to use, and has no problem with 1080P.

Try that.

I'd suggest trying to export with the H.264 codec & in the MPEG4 file format. Just to clarify, are you recording in FHD/1080P or just HD/720P?

if you looking for a better video editor try 'VSDC free video editor' it can upload videos that are 1920 x 1080 (full HD). VSDC free video editor 'FPS' go up to 60 which is very big and helpful for filming HD videos. i use it all the time on my videos, so if you have any doubt look at my videos.

You'd be surprised, Windows Live Movie Maker does actually allow you to export video in HD.
