The psicological effect of LIKES?

We know "likes" don't affect views.

Do you think asking for "thumbs up" gives an excuse for your viewers to feel connected to you, making them feel they are helping you?

A friend told me that most people believe you get paid for every "like". This could explain why people feel encouraged to "like" videos even when you don't ask for it.

Successful channels are know for asking "likes", so that meaningless feature might be very useful.

Your thoughts?

If Likes are greater than the views, then the VIDEO looks dull because people can easily know that he might have done LIKE for LIKE most probably. LIKES and DISLIKES decide the RATINGS of the video. Asking for LIKES is like improving the STATUS of your channel. Nobody would ever click on the videos with more DISLIKES.

Channels asking for likes are annoying and I'm unlikely to follow them because if they do those tactics, chances are they do a lot of other stuff I dislike.

i kinda agree on this point, I don't mind people trying new series or games and asking if you like this series and want me to do more leave a like, if not, don't. That way the likes can really tell the creator what their viewers want,
Its not too bad when they throw the leave a like blah blah thing that just rolls of their tongue at the end of every video, I get used to it. but some of them spend a good 20 seconds or more every credits almost begging for comments, likes, shares etc. it really comes off as super needy.

To my surprise, ever since I started asking for likes they multiplied. You don't need to sound needy at all.

All I say is: "If you enjoyed this video hit the like button, it help us a lot" with an upbeat tone.

I did some research and turns out that likes/dislikes affect the Youtube Ranking system. Even getting tons of dislikes helps, all that matters is that the viewers engage with your content, either with likes, comments, playlists, etc.

You can see the "like" as marketing tool to reach more viewers. How you ask for it is up to you.

Give it a try.

Yeah, I was thinking that. Likes and comments, even. I think that all goes toward how highly you rank in search, and get suggested at the end of other people's videos. It's good stuff!

I don't ask for likes and I feel that it helps me have a better gauge for how good my content is. Because the only people that like the video are saying "wow, that was so good I'm going to take some time to hit this like button because I want people to know that I liked it" versus just "that video was entertaining" and moving on with their life. I don't get many likes and I have a small following, but recently I had a video get like 8 likes which is pretty big for me (compared to like 1/2) so I can easily tell that people really liked that video more than others, and they liked it so much they innately felt compelled to hit the like button.

But I just do YouTube for fun so I'm not overly worried about expanding my reach, I mean I obvi like it when people watch my videos and when people like them, but I can see how if you were doing YouTube with the goal of being big, then getting a high number of likes could be beneficial to you.

But I'll also add that I get annoyed with people saying "don't forget to like and subscribe!" at the end of every video. Like bro if I actually like your video I'll 'like' it, and if I like your content enough I'll subscribe. I'm not gonna do it just to appease you. But that's just me and not everyone.

Do you have a source to back up your claim that dislikes help your ranking? I've heard that before, but I've also heard the opposite, so I don't know what to believe.

Likes do affect views but not so much as your channel overall watch time.
And yes - asking for likes is OK ("please like the movie if you enjoyed it"). It is not like begging - it is just reminding that if the people like your channel they can help it with a like (or a dislike).

How do you know how many dislikes there are on a video before you click on it? Even if you could see this information before you click the video - people watch videos with lots of dislikes to see what the fuss is about. I don't really think that people leave dislikes for poor quality videos anyway, I mean some people do, I always find that videos with huge numbers of dislikes are controversial rather than crap.
