I think, as long as you make the game interesting with your personality and your commentary, it doesn't matter what game you play.

Why don't you do both? You could do a variety of series when you post a video for a game on a specific day of the week e.g. Cod Monday, Fifa, Tuesday etc. You could do Random Friday's where you play some outrageously odd game that is totally different from the other mainstream games that you're into.

if you can find a nice blend of something that's at least mildly popular so that people will be searching for it, as well as something you actually enjoy playing so that your commentary comes out natural, that would be ideal

Just be interesting and almost any game could work out but it would probably work out better if you play mainstream games since people search those up pretty often.

I think that was my problem with my channel
at the beginning I got huge wave of subs bcuz I uploaded some bo3 and fifa 16
lately i uploaded only random things and I dont see any changes in it
