Some Advice Please...?

I've Got It
Hello...
I've been doing YouTube for about 9 months now, but recently I've decided to change the direction of the channel to do more covers and music videos and rebrand. The question is, should I private my old videos (they have a fair amount of views, but they are tutorials and reviews and aren't really part of the channel's new brand) and start the new channel direction, or keep them public?
Thanks :).

I would honestly keep all your videos running and just move on to the new idea you have. You never want to remove anything that people can search for and find your channel. You want every entry point you can get to get subscribers and views. From the name of your channel you could turn it into anything you like. Some of the top youtubers started making one type of video and just moved into something new. Youtube is all about exposure and being found. The moment you start over with a new channel you are back at step one, and if you private videos you shut that door also. So just make videos and keep moving forward:)

Think further. Covers are great but if those suddenly start getting really popular ppl would wanna know more about you personally besides music. If your other videos show your personality theres no reason why they can't be a part of your branding. Thats my opinion.

I would say keep them if you are proud of your other videos. As Alex said, most people will probably want to learn more about you personally as well as listening to the covers. Good luck!

I would say DO NOT MAKE THEM PRIVATE. Even though those videos are not any more of your niche, but I suppose variety of content makes the channel more good looking.

Keep them up and visible. It's always good to see how your channel has grown, and you never know when a video will get some traction. A number of my older videos have gotten a bunch of views well after I stopped paying attention to them.

I would still keep them if you still think it's good content. Having a variety on your channel isn't a bad thing. I guess it could also be used to gauge how 1 genre is doing by comparison when it comes to views for example.

I would make playlists and put each type of video in their respective playlist. I'm at the point where it would take forever and take too much effort to separate my content to be worth it. I don't plan on making a living off of YouTube so I don't necessarily have to optimize it if I don't want to. If you are serious though and want subs to actively follow you then you should probably get organized and develop a theme.

i would suggest keeping them public, you can make a channel update video, explaining the new direction your going in. people will often find it interesting exploring all your old videos. and you will still get views and subs from those old videos and then they will discover your new stuff
