Softbox VS umbrella lighting

I am doing beauty videos and noticed a lot of youtubers use softbox lights but I also heard umbrella lights are good.

What would you recommend? I want the videos to look nice and glowy

Softboxes are good for that kind of look, or you could even get a cheap construction light and diffuse the light with a white sheet to get the same sort of effect

Both have their benefits, but I would suggest soft boxes. Its nicer on the skin. You want something a bit harsher, umbrella lights have the capability. But Soft boxes compliment make up quite well :) or @brodielawrence suggestion :) Film riot do that for a few of their studio lights too :)

Ok thanks guys. I think ill definatley go for soft boxes then.

Having a nightmare on deciding which ones to get off amazon there's so many to choose from. I'm wanting ones with daylight bulbs and my budgets no more than £100. There's millions on there to choose from but so many mixed reviews so it's hard to decide

Tubetape's set of two lightboxes went down to $125USD for this weekend only due to overstock. The price is so good that I'm actually ordering some right now. Shipping looksa bit high though, possibly due to weight but I'm not sure. It's saying UPS Ground is a tad over $25. Still is a good price for those lights though.

It's not just the softbox that softens up the light, it also has to do with the size of the light source in relation to the subject. The bigger the light source, the softer the light. Both softbox and umbrella would serve you well, softbox would prevent light spill and prevent reflections from other surfaces. The set Michael posted looks good for that purpose, the price doesn't get too much better than that either.

Thankyou everyone for your help and suggestions I decided to get softbox rather than umbrella ella
