Should I record a popular (popularity) or unpopular (competition) game?

So popular games - lots of big Youtubers have played them and the competition is high

Unpopular games - competition is low but search volume (popularity) is low

Which way should I go, or is there a sweet spot in between? (I am a small channel)

You have 2 subscribers. Go popular or else you'll never go anywhere

I say do both. Of course I'd start with the newer games to help your channel get out there more but it also doesn't hurt to visit some of the older games too. =]
Never let channel growth, numbers, etc. get in the way of you playing the games you want.
