Hi I've had my gaming laptop for Christmas and I've wanted to slowly move into PC recording :). Problem is I'm not sure what software I should use to capture gameplay and what not. For you PC youtubers could you leave suggestions about software you recommend and trust that would be really fantastic :D

Fraps is the ol' classic choice but I personally use Nvidia Shadowplay which is awesome. Only problem is that you need a 600 series graphics card or newer.

Styxie is right with OBS, it's free and pretty decent to start with.

Dxtory can be really great, if you can get the right settings, of which there are lots!

OBS is the standard. Dxtory is a nice alternative to have for games that are being a pain in the butt for OBS to capture.

Shadowplay is sexy but it likely won't work on a laptop. The specification are pretty hardware restricted.

Fraps is ok but file sizes are unacceptable in my opinion.

Yeah the file sizes for fraps do suck a bit. Also on low performing machines it used to freeze the game for a second every time it started another file. I don't know if it does that now though.

Thank you all for the input looks like I'll start with OBS until I have some spare cash to upgrade :)
