YTtalk Mad
Hi all.

After starting my YouTube channel I've been getting some negative comments from family/friends and it's been really getting me down. For example my older brother has been giving me the "you'll never *make it*" etc type comments - and it's just made me feel really angry and depressed inside - not because I believe him, because I seriously believe that if you put time and effort into something and DON'T give up you'll eventually get to where you want to be... I guess what is really upsetting me is the lack of support and belief.

Has anyone else had to deal with this? What do you suggest I do? How have you overcome it and made not bother you?

It really bothers me :(:(:(:(

I can't believe your bro would be so mean, commenting right on your videos? My Friends and Family are supportive, many of them are subscribers actually.... my mom sometimes doesn't approve of some of the jokes I make on my channel, but I mean, that's expected with mom's 'edgy comedy' haha... I can't believe they would be more supportive, that blows, I'm sorry to hear that!

Yeah that does suck. Im tempted to say your brother may feel a bit jealous but I dont know him soo..... But I do know some people do hate on you when you do something interesting that they dont have the skill or balls to do.

Like you said, just keep motivated and keep doing what your doing. The best answer for him is to see your success

There are many a great story from people who've been told they can't do something or will never make it. I can't wait till you tell your story again but with a different outcome :)

The same with my parents they don't really understand why I make the videos but it's the same with a lot of parents of YT people and look at how far some of them have got now. I think eventually they will understand since they are probably not aware that It can be an actual career path and at the end of the day if your able to get through all the insults then you'll just become stronger and better than most people around you since you can deal with stress. For me I take my stress out when am training but some people like to go out and spend some time with friends to alleviate that stress so when you come back with a stronger mind insults just go over your head and you can ignore it easier.

Don't allow people like your brother to rent space in your head. When he talks s**t, just shrug it off. He's obviously bitter and insecure over his life choices, so he wants you to feel insecure and give up on something you're passionate about. Always surround yourself with positive people, even if you have to distance yourself from negative relatives. I leave you with these quotes:

"People who have given up on their own personal dreams and aspirations, have a tendency to try to convince you and discourage you from pursuing your dreams and aspirations." -Casey Neistat

"One day the people who didn't believe in you, will tell everyone how they met you." -Johnny Depp

Lots of people will want to bring you down when you do unique or risky things. All my peers derided me and I lost a lot of friends when I dropped out of college to pursue a job in the game industry. A few years later I was making more money than my parents, and my dad was still asking me when I was going to get a "real job" lol

Just don't listen to other people. The world is your oyster; do whatever makes you happy. Even if it doesn't work out, you'd feel worse if you never tried.

Yes. I have had people from my industry think I am ruining it by giving my music away free.
I guess I can somewhat understand how they feel but on the other end a lot of YouTubers are starting out and need free music and can't afford it. That's why I will always support the underdog.

Before I even created my channel anyone I talked to about creating a youtube channel told me the same thing: "Why? It's just a waste of time, you use that time doing something more productive. You'll never be popular, you'll never make it a living." I've been doubted by my family and friends on a lot of things I've attempted during my lifetime. There will always be people who will try to bring you down for whatever reasons they have, you have to remember that it's what YOU want to do. If you enjoy creating videos then keep creating videos! I will never let people with their negativity defer me from doing what makes me happy. It's pretty messed up for your brother to say that but it's your channel, not his and at the end of the day you have the final say on what you want to do. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something, the worst thing you can do is give up without trying.
