More popular YouTuber trying to advertise on my video?

Hello yt people

My most popular video (ironically my first, and least polished one) ranks first for a few "key" set of keywords that are searched often. This brings me 1k views per day on the video and has consistently since November.

Now that my video is just under 100k views, it has caught the attention of a larger YouTuber who has a similar video with just shy of a million views.

This morning, he posted a comment on my video saying "nice job, here's a better one [link to his video]. Ok that's a little rudely worded. Should I be annoyed or flattered? :thumbsdown2:

Since he linked in a comment, it's held back for approval by me.

Has this happened to you? Should I report the comment as spam? My other option is to let it through and to respond that it's his opinion and I like mine better.

These are on the subject of home office desk builds, so clearly personal opinion plays a big part in which desk people like better.

He/she comes off as rude. I would report it as spam - purely because the attitude of someone bigger steps on someone smaller disgusts me. Don't comment on it as it could appear salty and would at best benefit neither.

Thanks for the advice guys. Reporting as spam is the option I was leaning towards. I was just surprised seeing the comment by a larger youtuber that's monetized. I've read that advertising your video on another video is generally frowned upon, regardless of how honest the intentions are.

One thing to consider would be whether allowing the comment through, and making the polite/high road reply you mentioned, could be good for your channel. I know that if I were a fan of a small channel, and a bigger channel posted something rude like that, it would make me want to come to the channel's defence and I would maybe even care about the channel more! I'm not sure though, just a theory

Posting such a comment is such a brazen thing to do. Unless you're into drama in your comments section, I would report it as spam. Otherwise, as others have mentioned, you could leave it and allow your fans to interact with the comment.

Definitely rude. I mean, he's not even engaging with YOU - He's addressing YOUR viewers and trying to poach them. That's the really annoying thing.

I'd be tempted to go to his video and post the exact same comment ("nice job, here's a better one" [link to your video]) and see if he bites lol.

Only kidding. But seriously. Definitely flag his comment as spam and/or even use the "make comments from this user invisible" option.

I've had a few of those comments before, I usually just ignore them or just delete them. It is really rude, I see it like if someone's setup an event and them someone goes on a speakerphone telling everyone to ditch it and go to his better one, just as it'd be rude if that were to happen, this is rude.

I'm not super familiar with Youtube rules (new video maker), but I wonder if he'd accept to do some sort of a collaboration with you. He post his comment on your video (maybe with different wording) and you pin it. Then he does the same for you on his video.

Lots of interesting comments & feedback. I did ultimately flag the comment as spam. I do appreciate the "positive" comments that suggest I could have taken the higher road and allowed his comment. I feel that this would have been a great idea if his comment were neutral or positive, and not an outright attempt to poach views and be rude about it.

Ex: He said "Good Job! Here's a better one [link]".
Here's what he could have said and I would have allowed it: "Good Job! Here's an alternative method [link]".

I think if we combined our two desk build ideas, that could have been a fantastic suggestion for fans of both channels. That's what my comment would have been to his. His loss at a potential opportunity over a poor choice of words :)
