Microphone Issues

Basically over the 2 years I have tried 3 different microphones (I will list them below). Out of all 3 of them they all basically gave me the same issues. I am naturally a low speaker, so all mic's had a very hard time picking my voice up. I use Audacity, so the voice line barley raises off of the recording line. maybe 1Db at highest peak. I thought it was mics so I switched and still same issues. I put mic closer, and it sounds like I hate the mic of course. I also tried editing in Audacity but it changes my voice and blows it out to much trying to normalize it.

I used a Cheap 20 mic - first started, it was bad.
Blue Snowball Ice - not bad, but it picked every little thing up in the background, so you heard me clicking louder then it recorded my voice.
The Kracken 7.1v headset mic - good for gaming, not so good for commentary.

All mics were USB, I don't have a sound card, so I was thinking that maybe the issue, but I am not sure. I was thinking of getting the package for the Neewer 700pro, with the amp, to see if that would work, but before I buy anything I figured best to get some advice.

the best solution in this case is probably simply to speak louder :) not everything can be fixed in the mix. most professional microphones let you adjust the sensitivity of course, but I guess that will leave you with the same problem you had with the blue snowball ice mic (that everything else will be louder). you can also try to have the mic as close as possible to your mouth (but I suggest using a pop filter then). even then though, speaking louder will probably be the better sounding solution.

Cheers

Jamie got it right I think.. Louder, and clearer. I naturally speak with zero enthusiasm for the world lol and am very quietly spoken. It took me a while to figure out how to address this. First I looked for a quick fix such as better mic, equipment etc etc which I think is where your at just now. Its true a good mic is a start but it will not solve your problem. A good plan would be try to improve the quality of the source audio .. i.e You!?. You want to be as good as you can be, not just excuse yourself as a low speaker and then try to fix it with better tools (which I mean respectfully Mr tokoo)
I watched a few bits of your vids but didn't find any with you talking. I record scripts for voiceover on my videos, and have to try quite hard to make anything decent. I watched my 1st upload recently and the voiceover embarrasses me. My newer vids are a lot better I think, and this is because i make a real effort to speak better, and i record several attempts at the same part dialog until i get one take that doesn't sound like I just got out of bed. If your live streaming that might be harder to do, just depends how much effort you want to invest and what you want to achieve with your channel.
A clip on mic that you can position closer to you and further from all your clicking stuff might help also.

I only spoke in a few of my video's. I think the ppsspp, and the Sunlightbulbs one. I tried talking louder, but I felt like I was screaming, could just need more prat ice, and yes I have same issue with being enthusiastic myself. I think I need a clip, or maybe a better stand, I have a desk stand that I have to hunch down to get picked up better.

well i just bought the Rode NT-USB mic with a mini stand and pop filter and its amazing! price is a little high but its awesome! highly recommend this! i came from the snowball but that was way too loud for me, i had to put the mic like to the back of the desk so it doesnt catch every sensitive tone from my voice, when i play games i jump every now and then so there are high pitches sometimes so i didnt want the mic to distort :)

Amazon has good shock mounts and boom stands that are supported for Blue Snowball and Yeti, probably the best way to solve backround noise if the Snowball is on one directional setting especially.

That's why I got rid of the snowball, the shock mount would have been higher then the mic. I figured that would have helped a lot if i had one though.

The Blue Snowball should work fine. The Blue brand of microphones are amazing products I personally find (I use the Blue Yeti) you just need to experiment with the gain and such and settings on the microphone to limit what your mic picks up. If you are using a mechanical keyboard its unfortunate but you will always pick up the clacking sounds of your keyboard. Its just the price one has to pay for such a microphone I guess.
