So I am considering upgrading and getting myself an iphone 5 which now has a 720p front facing camera which would be great for vlogging with, however should I use my Panasonic HX-DC10 or use the iphone 5 when I get it?

get a camcorder and use the iphone 5 as a phone and backup camera if need be. Thats what I do with my iPhone 4 and camera.

Yeah I use a camcorder now, was just wondering if I needed it if I got an iphone 5! But when my other half does his recording with his iphone 4s you can notice a difference even though both suppose to record the same in HD.

Why don't you both get camcorders? and get warranties for them incase they break so you can get a new one if need be?

Skip the iPhone altogether and get a 1080p camcorder.

I have a 1080p camcorder, is there any point in recording in anything above 720p for youtube though? Also what is difference between 30p and 60i on 1080p ??

Honestly, for vlog 720p should be fine and that's just my opinion. Sure there's difference in quality between 720p vs 1080p. But not everyone notices that. If you were shooting sketches, short films, and other film-related videos then you definitely need the 1080p. Also new smartphones are crazy awesome with their new HD video quality but that should be only your second option if in case your camera is not operating or maybe you need 2 camera angles/views in 1 video. Unless you want to upgrade to iPhone 5 as your 'phone' I say get a new camcorder or DSLR if possible.
