Gimp: paint brush help

I'm trying to find a paint brush effect/texture/finish to use for a thumbnail I'm making in Gimp. But everywhere I'm looking is just to download Gimp paint brushes that don't actually have a paint brush finish effect. More specifically I'm trying to get the effect of the "Shadows" text in the image here: http://media.indiedb.com/images/downloads/1/62/61293/logo.png.
But the paint brushes in Gimp just repeat themselves (e.g. if I use a blood splatter and move the mouse, it just pastes the blood spatter repeatedly so it actually works more like a stamp than a brush), they don't actually add any finishes. I'd look for a font but I'd rather draw it by hand to give it a more hand painted effect.

That looks to two brushes together to making that effect.

I don't know what GIMP comes with since I have Photoshop, but I suggest an ink brush to make the text and splotching the top with a spray paint or air brush (with a large px using only the outer part of the brush).

EDIT: Or try something like a "Large Oil Pastel Brush". It's from Photoshop but it's the only one that I could find that gave it the splotched pattern.

Damn, yeah. It looks like I'm going to have to manually make the effect somehow. But it's hard since GIMP for some reason doesn't brush like standard paint. Paint has the oil brush but GIMP doesn't. The issue with GIMP as well is that even when I fiddled with the settings, I was sort of able to get the effect I wanted but it's still stamping repeatedly as opposed to creating a single stroke with the end finish. I really should have installed Photoshop from the beginning but I've lost the installer. >.>
