Getting publicity outside YT social communities

I often hear that you should "attain views from outside YouTube social media communities". I'm wondering what are some of your experiences or good practices in attaining views from outside your niches and social communities. Do you promote your channel outside your niche and even offline?

I indirectly do promote my website and channel when I´m out traveling, as i´m wearing t-shirts with my websites name on the back. I haven´t seen any breakthrough on that though, as i´m not traveling as much as I want to. You could leave your card at a café or such!
