Fraps hates me, broh.

I am not sure why, but if the game isn't a AAA title fraps seems to only record a portion of the screen. I was playing Shantae for example, and it clipped literally about 1/4 of the screen off the top and bottom. Anyone know a work-around for this or am I just a big ol dum dum and doing something wrong?

EDIT*
While I'm at it, fraps absolutely will not record my desktop screen. I know that it's harder to record for windows 8.1 I just dont know the exact way to troubleshoot it. I tried OBS and it doesnt work either. Anyone know of a free or cheap screen recorder for windows 8.1?

FIX*
Just figured it out. Gotta put the games in windowed mode for some reason. /shrug.

Hmm OBS is probably the best free recording software out there so I recommend troubleshooting or watching a tutorial on how to set it up. I use OBS to record my desktop when am doing tutorials or any browser gaming.

My problem with OBS is that I get really bad fps lag on the video. Audio sounds fine, but for some reason the video gets really choppy after about 10 seconds of recording.

That's weird have you tried changing the settings? I have a thread where I've put the settings of OBS that I use It's called "how to split audio and the way I record my videos." What are your spec as well since OBS seems to use a lot of CPU power for me anyways. Camstudio I believe is another free screen capture software you can try to use. If it gets a bit annoying for you I can try to help you using teamviewer.

After Christmas I'll have a lot more free time so I'll mess around with them and I'll check out your post about obs. I have tried camstudio on my windows 7, I may move it over to here and see how it works too. I appreciate all the help, bro!
