My friends and i are doing a Mario party in real life video, so most of us will be dressed in mario costumes and we will have muschrooms/turtleshell props in the video as well. The music and sound effects will all be royalty free songs that i purchased the rights to.
Has anyone done anything like this before..If so..Can i monetize the video? Will Nintendo Flag it? Whats the best way to do this? Can i do something to make this a parody (which means it's ok to use their copyrighted characters)? So many questions.
I have tried asking other mario type videos on youtube, but noone has responded so i am hoping maybe someone from here will.

Thanks guys!

Seems to me that there should be no issue with monetizing that video as long as you are not ripping visuals or audio you won't get flagged. And if you do you live and learn just go for it

I live in the same city as Remi Gaillard ( https://www.youtube.com/user/nqtv - 5 million subs ), who does loads of videos dressed up as characters. Here's one of his famous videos featuring Mario (this video was filmed 2 minutes from my flat lol):

(This has 65 million views)

He recently did an interview for a local newspaper here and they asked him if he was a millionaire because of all his views and he said that no because Nintendo had claimed the revenue. I don't know if they claimed and received 100% of it, but I got the impression they took at least a very big chunk of it. It seemed harsh to me at first, but I suppose it makes sense if you think about. If nobody knew the Mario character, then that video I linked to wouldn't make much sense. So Nintendo see it as people making money from their intellectual property.

So yeah, if you're doing it for a bit of fun and not bothered about making money, then you should be fine, but if you're looking for $$, you might want to avoid nintendo characters. He even did a video dressed up as the Godfather I think and he said that was claimed by the company that owned the rights to that character too.

Outfit/toys no problem, don't added nitendo music for your videos.
you can use music on YT Audio Library

Yea the money would be nice...But even if nintendo claims it, it will still drive traffic to my channel (not to mention how much fun it's going to be. I think the problem with Remi is that he ripped the graphics, music, and sound[DOUBLEPOST=1443097569,1443097494][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thanks for the reassurance, I hope your right. Like i said, i won't be using any graphics, sound effects, or music so i hope it will be ok.
