Best Editing Software

Depends on what you wanna do, I personally use Sony Vegas pro 10, it's simple to use and you can do a lot of editing effects. Something more advanced but also more complicated to use is after effects

Please do not ever use After Effects to Edit.. it is not made to edit.. Adobe makes Permiere for Editing and After Effects for adding effects after you edit.. Hence the name After Effects.

Not planing to use after effects, I can do what i want in sony vegas with a bit of help from PhotoShop

I went from Camtasia to Vegas to Premiere. I'd like to say I'm perfectly content where I finally got to. If anything, you can do the CC version for $20 a month,

As you've asked for software that can EDIT and works on both Mac and Windows.. the only thing I can really suggest is Adobe Premiere Pro CS6/CC. It works like a dream and is the industry standard software at the minute used by many production companies. It takes a few hours of messing around and youtube tutorials to learn it all. But, it's so very worth it!
