Average Viewing Time

Do your own views affect this? I often have to briefly open my videos just so I can grab the link and pass it on to a mate or post it somewhere so I'm often viewing my video for literally 2-3 seconds... will that be included in my results or would YT see its me and not include it in the figures.

I'm already mildly annoyed as it is that my little kids keep loading my videos on youtube and then 5 seconds in go 'meh i'll watch something else'... lol I'm sat there tearing my hair out as my average view time goes through the floor.

It counts. I've tested it myself.

If you want the video's link, go to Video Manager -> Edit -> Video URL
If you want to reply to a comment while not affecting watch time (and don't want to favourite or pin comments), go to Community -> Comments

Average view duration only really counts if it happens over and over.

So for example if 100 people watch your video for 10 minutes each you have an average view duration of 10 minutes. Just grabbing a link wont do anything.

haha that's funny because I have the same problem, however it is only applicable for videos that have less than 100 or so views. Once it surpasses that it doesn't become as relevant for what Digibox mentioned. I've done it a lot lately and my average view duration has actually increased a lot because other people are watching. That being said I sometimes watch my own videos to see how they 'feel'.

I think they do, as yourself viewing a video counts as a view, so probably-maybe. Although that would mess up your analytics if you kept on reloading your page, so that might suck. Peace out! ~Column 1
