Posting movie with multiple languages subtitled: best way ?

Dear all,

I'm completely new to this channel, I'm happy to have found it.

I have a question and I thought you guys might be of good advice.

I am a filmmaker. I make short films which go to festivals for 1 to 2 years, and when their festival lifecycle is over, I put them online.

I am about to put a shortfilm online. It is a very dear film to me, it has done very well in festivals. In order to have a good audience, I thought of translating it in several languages (I have about 5).

The film is originally in FRENCH, and I have subtitles in English, Spanish, Chinese, Croatian and Portuguese.

The question I was wondering is: how am I going to reach people from those countries ? How are they going to know that the film is available in their language ?

- Shall I post one file with no subtitles, and upload 5 SRT to Youtube ?
- - In that case, does Youtube automatically choose the right subtitle for the right audience ?
- - Or shall I burn in the English subs, and add the 4 other as SRT Closed Captions (so you'd have English + Spanish for exemple) -> in that case it works full screen, but when the player is on, the 2nd language subs display in front of the English subs
- - Shall I announce those languages in the description ?

- Shall I post 5 different video files with the subs burned in ?
- - In that case, do I have to make efforts to promote 5 different files (which seem pretty impossible to me)

I hope my question was clear. And I hope you can help me out, because I'm really really confused !!!

Thank you !!!!!!!!
Manu

Post a video without subtitles in it, then add the subtitles through the youtube subtitles function.
Just copy the script/subtitels into the "transcribe" function of the subtitles tab (in the video edit thing on youtube itself).

Thank you Jan for your answer

Will Youtube automatically display the adequate translation for the right people ? I'm afraid they "don't notice" they can get subtitles in their own language, and will skip the video
