These are for free. Paid software doesn't belong on this list.

Big fan of GIMP now that ive spent a few weeks working with it. It's difficult to create new things it it however as its largely a graphics/photo editor. There are some free illustrator programs out there but I cant think of any off the top of my head.

AE isn't for making Graphics, it's a video effects program.

[Harry Of All Trades]

I didn't see Inkscape on the list. It's a free Vector graphics program. It complements GIMP fairly nicely.

If you want 3d Graphics then there is Blender.
